Human Rights Policy
The Lovat Loch Ness is committed to respecting human rights across our own operations and our supply chain, in line with the principles of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015.
Our approach to human rights is guided by internationally recognised standards, including the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), the International Bill of Human Rights (including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights), and the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. We are committed to respecting, protecting, and promoting these fundamental rights across our operations, employment practices, and supplier relationships.
Our Commitment
- We respect the human rights and dignity of everyone connected to our business — employees, guests, suppliers, and the wider community
- We do not tolerate forced labour, child labour, human trafficking, or any form of exploitation, in our own business or our supply chain
- We are committed to fair treatment, equality, and non-discrimination for everyone we employ or work with
Our People
- Fair pay — all employees are paid at least the National Minimum/National Living Wage, with pay reviewed annually (see our Pay Review Process)
- Safe working conditions — appropriate health and safety standards across all departments
- Freedom from discrimination — protections for all protected characteristics, and a right to raise DEI-related concerns without fear of retaliation (see our Non-Retaliation Policy)
- Freedom of association — employees are free to join a trade union or staff association should they wish
- A safe way to raise concerns — via line managers, Directors, or our Concern Reporting Form, protected under our Non-Retaliation Policy
- Protection for young workers — additional care is taken with apprentices and any employee under 18, in line with safeguarding good practice
Our Supply Chain
We expect our suppliers to uphold the same basic human rights standards we hold ourselves to. This is set out in more detail in our Modern Slavery Statement, Supplier Code of Conduct, and Ethical Sourcing Policy, and is considered as part of supplier onboarding under our Procurement Policy.
Governance and Responsibility
This policy is owned by Caroline Gregory and Sean Kelly (Directors), who are responsible for embedding it across the business's employment practices and supplier relationships.
Raising a Concern
Anyone — employee, supplier, or guest — with a concern about a human rights issue connected to The Lovat is encouraged to raise it via the Concern Reporting Form, or directly with Caroline Gregory or Sean Kelly. Concerns raised in good faith are protected under our Non-Retaliation Policy.
Review of This Policy
This policy will be reviewed at least annually.
