We are looking for a Gardener to join our team!
Job summary
Responsible for the general maintenance and development of the kitchen garden, green house and private garden area on the property – creating a garden environment that is enjoyable, safe, and secure.
MAIN DUTIES
Tasks will vary on a daily basis:
- Carrying out a varied range of gardening duties, requiring a minimum amount of supervision and use of own initiative
- Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, litter and debris clearing, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting
- Lawn maintenance and cultivation
- The use of a wide range of hand tools, horticultural machinery and powered hand tools, such as lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters etc
- Ensuring that all tools, garden equipment and machinery are correctly maintained and serviced and that they are kept in good and safe working order
- Assisting with the construction of raised beds
- Awareness and practising of Health and Safety legislations, ensuring a safe working environment for everyone working or using the garden
- Keeping the tool shed clean and tidy and tools stored securely at all times
- Use of natural methods for plant protection and pest control, avoiding application of chemicals and pesticides
- Undergo training as required
Essential skills, interests and qualities

- Competent, physically fit and able to do hard manual labour
- Have a track record of creating and maintaining gardens
- Ability to use a wide range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools
- Possessing a good knowledge of botany and horticulture
- Comfortable with working in all weathers and seasons
- Ability to work well as part of a team or individually
- Knowledge and experience of implementing health and safety rules and legislations
- Good communication skills and a courteous personal manner
- Creativity and an eye for detail
- Eagerness to learn and improve
Desirable
- Knowledge and/or interest in the Permaculture Design approach as we look to landscape our lawn
- Horticultural qualification
- Experience and/or qualification in tree surgery
- First Aid qualification
- Knowledge of organic gardening methods and techniques
- Experience of identifying pests and diseases
- Ability to pass on knowledge and educate teams in the field
