The Loch Ness 360 marathon challenge is not for the faint hearted…The word challenge feels as if it underestimates the actual marathon ahead.  In the details posted it states that ‘to complete any of these events requires a high level of fitness’, but that’s not to scare you off, that is to make sure you fully understand what you’re signing up for!

The Loch Ness 360 challenge is a new three-day running or cycling event around Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands.  This trail takes you on a breath-taking journey of 129km (80 miles) and over 3000m of ascent.  There are a few options on which challenge you could tackle – 3 days 3 marathons, the ultra-marathon or the mountain bike challenge.

3 days 3 marathons

With this challenge they have broken down the 129km into 3 marathons over 3 days. You can take part in a one-day event or lace up for all 3 marathons over the 3 days.

Each daily marathon covering 42km (26.2 miles) using the well-known Great Glen Way trail and South Loch Ness trail.

The ultra-marathon challenge is the full 129km in 24 hours, if you’re planning to take on this challenge you must be an experienced off-road trail runner with experience in competing in ultra- marathons.  The challenge specifications state that this is not for beginners!  The ultra-marathon starts from the village Dores at 10pm on Saturday, 30th May.

Mountain bike challenge

The mountain bike challenge is the same trail as the marathon but covering the full 129km in 14 hours.  Just like the marathons, the trail starts in Dores. The circular route will leave the village at 5am on Sunday, 31st May 2020.  There is a mandatory kit you must carry at the organiser’s request, such as mobile phone and waterproof clothing amongst other things.  Please research the requirements before heading to the starting point.
