Meet the team - Introducing our 1st year kitchen apprentice, Alex -

Where are you from?

- I was born and raised in Lochaber in the Scottish Highlands.

How old are you?

- I’m 16 years old.

What made you want to become a chef?

- My grandparents owned a restaurant on the Isle of Skye, ever since I was little I enjoyed cooking but it wasn't until I got my first job in a kitchen that I realised that this is what I wanted to do as a profession.


What is your favourite dish to cook? 

- I really enjoy cooking venison, and other types of game that are available.


What has been your proudest moment so far in your career?

- My proudest moment so far has to be winning a district finals cooking competition. 


Have you been involved in many chef competitions? If so, which ones?

- I’ve taken part in a few competitions in recent years. Competitions such as The Springboard Future Chef and Rotary Young Chef. 


You recently ate in our Station Road restaurant, which dish did you enjoy the most?

- My favorite dish so far has to be the Gigha Halibut, Mussels, Brassicas and Horseradish. I'm looking forward to trying some new dishes. 

What do you like to do with your free time?

- I like golf, and I enjoy fishing. Over the last year I have become quite keen on foraging which I do a lot while out walking in the local woodlands with my dogs.


What are your future aspirations?

- I would like to complete my apprenticeship whilst growing my skills and knowledge before venturing out to work in other kitchens around the world. I really look forward to learning new styles and techniques of cooking while in other countries.
